London's Only Mixed Gay, Lesbian & Straight Comedy Night Launches

Wave goodbye to those Tuesday blues, with £2 drinks and top comedians at Comedy Camp - London's only mixed lesbian & gay comedy night, at Soho's barcode from this week - it even has a late bar! Hosted by resident compere Simon Happily (right), the first night's line-up includes top comedian and TV star Donna McPhail, Paul Sinha and this year's Hackney Empire New Act of the Year finalist - the delightfully camp James Holmes. While Comedy Camp has a gay slant, it aims to attract a mixed audience with a blend of top acts - both gay and straight - like Scott Capurro and circuit favourite Stephen K. Amos.
"Just as increasing numbers of straight people are happy to go to trendy gay bars, Comedy Camp is by no means a separatist comedy club - I'm already pleasantly surprised at the wide range of acts - lesbian, gay and straight - who have leapt at the chance to perform there." says comedian Simon Happily.

He's performed at more than 200 gigs since he first started stand-up two years ago and says, "It's amazing really. I've appeared at lesbian and gay comedy nights as far afield as Edinburgh, Glasgow and Brighton yet there's nothing like it in London. Last summer, I performed on a lesbian and gay comedy night at the ICA as part of the Mardi Gras arts festival and it reminded me of the demand for such a night."

The Mardi Gras comedy night made Simon start searching for the perfect venue while he was busy performing sets and becoming an increasingly popular compere around London - and the country. Along came downstairs at barcode and with £2 drinks on a Tuesday and a late bar until 1 a.m. for those who want to hang out after the show it looks set to become a fantastic night out. With much compering experience under his belt and a dream of a mixed lesbian, gay and straight night out, Comedy Camp was born.

Tuesday 27th March Opening Night with Donna McPhail plus James Holmes and Paul Sinha Tuesday 3rd April The highly talented Stephen K Amos heads the bill with the hysterically camp Hal Cruttenden and the magical Mandy Muden.
