This year's London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival once again provides an unrivalled opportunity for you to experience the best of gay cinema from across Europe and the world. This major event in the gay calendar is at London's National Film Theatre until mid-April, and you've got the chance to get your hands one of the Festival's hottest tickets Touch Of Pink courtesy of the LLGFF and OutUK. This Centrepiece screening is a fun romantic comedy set in Canada, and brings together the talents of Jimmy Mistry and Kyle MacLachlan with director Ian Iqbal Rashid.
Canadian boy Alim (Mistry) lives in London with his boyfriend Giles, happily enough, until the prospect of his glamorous but traditional mother, Nuru coming to visit from Toronto sends him into sexuality panic. Will he come out to her? Guess not. Instead, he looks to his imaginary friend, Cary Grant (MacLachlan) for some Hollywood relationship advice.
Sleek, handsome and not so wise, he suggests that they pretend Giles is 'the roommate'. Naru makes plans to marry Alim off to a nice Ismali girl back in Canada. Thinking on his feet, Mr Grant comes up with ruse No 2 - for Alim to come out (as married to Giles's sister). Naru spends some time with Giles, who makes her feel light, beautiful and happy, and reminds her of the London of her youth. Increasingly jealous of the attention his mother is getting, Alim takes drastic action and sends his mother packing back to Canada. When Alim goes back to Toronto for a wedding, the scene is set for a farce-like clash of cultures, secret revelations and the ultimate test of Alim's character. Director Rashid is a regular visitor to the LLGFF with previous short films Surviving Sabu and Stag, and he's due to attend the Centrepiece screening.
