Brighton is the venue for an enterprising celebration gay arts and entertainments during these first weeks of November. The GLAM Festival brings together a host of performers and artists from around the UK and showcases a real diversity of gay lesbian and transgendered talent.

Being Brighton all the local gay talent is taking part with the whole event getting the seal of approval of actor and writer Simon Callow. 'I am proud to be a patron of GLAM and thrilled that they are able to present such a unique showcase of talent - what lucky audiences..... there's something for everyone', he says and he's right.

Most of the performance events are during the first weekend when there's a real mix of stand-up comedy, cabaret and a concert featuring the Pink Singers and the Rainbow Chorus. There's a final night concert on the 11th featuring the London Gay Symphony Orchestra in their Brighton debut. Founded in 1996, the Orchestra performs all over the UK, presenting at least four concerts a year including an annual event for World AIDS Day. Their Brighton concert features Stravinsky's Firebird Suite and a world premiere of A Small Concerto for Orchestra by Sussex composer Matthew Pollard.
There's music of a different kind that same night featuring Steve Anthony who mixes pop, rock, jazz, dance, exotic scales and hard-edged lyrics, in a combination that's like Marc Almond meeting Joni Mitchell meeting Billie Holiday. He is joined by Tom Briers on bass and Gavin Kinch on drums, providing the groove behind the passion for this special one-off gig in Brighton.

In fact your spoilt for choice that Sunday because a host of Brighton acting talent is taking part in a panel discussion on the way gay performers are treated in the theatre. Sophie Ward (below left), Neil Bartlett, Kate Crutchley and Simon Fanshawe discuss gay stereotypes, typecasting and more, as well as taking questions from the audience.
