The 11th International Gay and Lesbian Football Association (IGLFA) World Championships have taken place from 4th-11th August 2001 in Chiswick, West London. OutUK's proud to be an official sponsor of this week long carnival of sports and social activities - London 2001. The championships had teams competing from The Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy and Poland as well as a very strong representation from the USA, and OutUK has full details of all the teams and all the scores and results.
The Opening Party was at the Scala Club, there was a 'Sing-A-Long Sound of Music' in Leicester Square, a special event at the London Eye and a closing party at Heaven.

This is an annual event and in the past has been held in a host of cities including Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Dallas, Washington D.C., Amsterdam, Fort Lauderdale and Cologne. Teams took part from across the world including some from the USA, Poland, Australia and Argentina. Overall there were twenty male and ten female teams involved in London 2001. Next year the tournament is being played in conjunction with the 2002 GayGames in Sydney, Australia.

This year's London tournament was at the University of Westminster Sports Ground, Chiswick in West London. The complex which includes grass pitches, two large changing pavilions, bar, cafe and other food outlets also has a stadium with terraced seating which was used for the Finals.

Many players in the Men's Championship come from Stonewall FC who run three League teams playing in amateur championships throughout London as well as a recreational team which plays "just for fun". Stonewall FC have a proud record in both European and World Championships. They are currently the EGLSF European Champions (and Stonewall's second team are joint, with Berlin, holders of the European Recreational title) won in Zurich in June 2000. In the Koln World Championship in 2000 Stonewall again won Gold in the Competitive and Recreational categories and Stonewall's third team took Bronze in the Recreational category.
